The Trust Institute is an independent research, education, and certification body for the mid-market and the private equity firms that back it. We study how structural trust drives performance, and we put what we learn into the hands of the leaders who need it.
Mid-market companies return roughly half the total shareholder value of large-cap companies. Not because the people are less capable, but because the structure is stacked against them. They are underfunded, under-modernized, and starved of the strategic leadership and technology advantage that large-cap enterprises use to compound their lead year after year.
Underneath almost every version of the problem, the stalled transformation, the merger that never integrated, the strategy that looked sound and never executed, is the same root cause. The structural trust required to move the organization forward was not there.
The companies that build that trust deliberately are the ones that position differently, move faster, hold on to their best people, and begin to close the gap. The cost of failing to is not philosophical. It shows up in margin, in attrition, in enterprise value destroyed, and in time that does not come back.

Most leaders treat trust as a feeling. A byproduct of good culture. Something you either have or you do not. That belief is exactly why the gap persists.
Trust is not a feeling. It is infrastructure. It can be diagnosed with real data, designed into the way an organization makes decisions and communicates, measured over time, and rebuilt when it breaks. Companies that build it deliberately unlock the leadership confidence, capital access, innovation speed, and retention that the gap is made of.
We call the framework the Trust Operating System™. It is the methodology the Institute studies, teaches, and refines: a way to turn trust from an aspiration into a system an organization can actually run.
See where trust is strong and where it is quietly costing you, with data instead of guesswork.
Design trust into how your organization decides, communicates, and leads.
Track structural trust over time the way you track any asset that matters.
Make trust durable through transformation, pressure, and growth.
The Trust Institute is built the way credible institutions are built: on research, education, certification, and community that reinforce each other. We publish the data. We set the standard for what good looks like. We certify the practitioners who meet it, and we convene the people advancing the field. Behind all of it sits an intelligence platform built to study trust at scale.

The Trust Score is the instrument the Institute uses to assess structural trust. It reads how an organization is trusted across the three dimensions that drive performance, and you can run it on your own.
How your people experience trust in leadership, decisions, and each other.
How your market, customers, and brand perceive your trustworthiness.
How partners, investors, and the wider network read you.
Answer a short, structured assessment and receive your Trust Score with a clear reading of where you stand, where the risk sits, and what the evidence suggests you do next. It takes about ten minutes, at no cost, and it runs on the same intelligence behind the Institute's research.

Serious work needs a place to gather. The Trust Institute convenes the people building structural trust inside real organizations: the certified practitioners who deploy the framework, the leaders who back them, and a Fellows program of distinguished voices from academia, business, and the public sector. The field comes together each year at the Trust Institute Summit and stays connected the rest of the year.

Why now
The research on trust is settled. The gap is real and measurable. And right now, no institution is doing the work of operationalizing trust for the companies that need it most. That is the work of the Trust Institute, and it is underway.
